Home Bass Spring Fundraiser and Rent Party

Hey! Asking for financial support is new territory for us. Up to this point, the Home Bass founders have been covering the bulk of the costs: rent, utilities, supplies, and compensating the team that holds it all together. We've done it as a way of giving back, but we’re also excited to explore what sustainability and mutual investment look like.

We want Home Bass to truly belong to the community, and part of that means inviting the community into the work of keeping it alive.

Our goal is $3,000, which covers one more month of costs. One month of the space living on. One month of dance sessions, rehearsals, workshops, late-night conversations, and all the small, unplanned, in-between moments that make this community special.

As part of this fundraiser, we invite you to our first-ever Rent Party on May 3: a full afternoon of community, dancing, DJs, and a dance class, hosted by our friends at Open Doors in Berkeley. It's a block party for the Home Bass family. We suggest a donation of $10-50 (no one turned away for lack of funds), and all proceeds go toward our fundraising goal.

If you can't make the rent party, it’s okay; there are other ways to support. A donation through this page goes a long way, and every contribution brings us closer to another month of keeping the doors open. You can also support with your time, craft, or art. Word of mouth is how Home Bass has grown from the very beginning, and it's how we'll keep growing.

ABOUT HOME BASS:

Home Bass is a community space in Oakland built by and for artists, dancers, and friends. Starting from a shared vision in the fall of 2024, Home Bass has evolved into a living room for the community, hosting dance classes, concerts, co-working, rehearsals, and parties. Together with our members, we’ve built a sprung dance floor by hand, hosted visiting artists from around the world, and created a weekly home for House and Hustle dancers who now have a consistent space to practice and grow together.

From the beginning, we've operated on a gift economy. We don't charge organizers rent, we don't sell tickets, and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. Keeping our space accessible, especially for working artists, is deeply important to us. We've seen what’s possible when people can just show up and be themselves without worrying about cost, and our community has shown up in kind: members have contributed art for the walls, organized clean-up days, sourced materials and furniture, helped with construction projects, and stepped up to organize their own events. We feel honored and grateful for all the ways people show up in collaboration.
